Soundtoys Decapitatorĭecapitator by Soundtoys is a saturation/distortion plugin that emulates everything from tape machines, output tubes, and channel strips. I don’t like sharing exact settings, but I usually highpass around 50 Hz to get rid of the unnecessary low end, and I often boost a tiny bit around 1.6 kHz to make the guitars sound a little more open. Therefore, I use the 1073 very subtly to give the signal just a tiny bit of that magical Neve color. So it pays to be sensible with the settings here. An obvious downside to this is that as soon as the signal has been recorded you can’t change the Scheps 73’s settings. This “prints” the effect just as if I had recorded with a real preamp straight into my DAW. I typically use the Scheps 73 in my recording FX chain, meaning I run my guitars through it before it is recorded. This means you can get away with doing drastic moves on the EQ section without it sounding bad. Many mixing engineers love recording through this preamp because the transformer does something magical to the low end of a signal, and the EQ section is very musical. The 1073 has become a staple of preamplifiers and is known for its rich and colorful sound. The Waves Scheps 73 emulates one of Andrew Scheps’ personal Neve 1073 preamps. Each of them are outstanding in their own right. However, these are the 7 best plugins for mixing guitars that I’ve come across in my music production journey. Let’s face it, “Best Of” lists are always going to be somewhat subjective. Rounding Up 7 Of The Best Plugins For Mixing Guitars Sure choosing the right amplifier, guitar and even pickups is essential but so are is choosing the correct plugins. Engineers rely on various plugins as mixing tools, and will also likely be using amp sims and other processing on guitar tracks to get the best possible tone. One crucial part that is often overlooked is the mixing process.įor every record you’ve listened to, a mixing engineer has spent countless hours in the studio trying to make the raw recorded tracks sound as good as possible. But there’s so much more to making a great album. When making a record many people tend to think an artist disappears in a studio, a few instruments get recorded, a few buttons get pushed, and voila! I have all the vst plugin folders listed in the Plugins list in Preferences. I assume the "圆4.dll" refers to the vst3 file. But if I close Mixcraft and re-open it, it's gone. And there, it seems, is the ssl comp mono & stereo non-vst3 plugin. If I drag this file: WaveShell2-VST 12.1_圆4.dll, an application extension, not the vst file (see pic 3), then all the non-vst3 plugins load in the plugin fx list, underneath, or after, the regular vst list. Do you know where it's located? I've contacted Waves once about this, thought I had the answer, but didn't. I scanned my C drive for all vst2 files and found no waves ssl file. You click install and it just does it and say it's done, which is unfortunate. Sorry I missed your reply! No, the Waves Central install procedure gives no options. Thanks for clarifying and I appreciate yours and the whole Acoustica team's effort in fixing problems. Could you re-test and confirm your findings please?Īnd of course, if anyone else reading this has this plug-in, additional results would be helpful. I intend to test further and update an existing bug log on my findings as well. I think it worked at some point in an earlier beta test version of MX9, but I am not certain and have no way of going back and testing as I have deleted those versions some time ago to regain drive space.īut if I use the mono version, it seems to function as expected, and it seems to me the output is still stereo. I have observed that the stereo version currently does not work in the latest build(s). The reason I asked the specific question was an effort to confirm my own findings on this plug in. Waves plug-ins specifically seem to have a few titles that present some problems, and the Acoustica team has been communicating with the Waves team in an effort to sort some of this out at times. Trouble is, its sometimes different for different users systems. We have seen a few odd problems where certain specific plug ins behave oddly. I am a long time user and have been on the beta team for the last several versions.
